Baba Indaba

Helderstroom Alpacas has just exhibited, for the first time, at the three day Cape Town Baba Indaba. I thought members might be interested to hear how it went. Whilst one always wants to sell more, we were very pleased and some of our goodies will shortly be on their way to Germany to explore outlets there! We made excellent contacts and back at my desk, the email has been abuzz! The interest was wonderful and we were impressed at how many people know – even if only a little – about alpacas. (We were delighted when our two alpaca Christmas stockings were snapped up by the Show Director)!

We had booked a 3 x 3 stand, generously extended by the Baba Indaba organisers at no charge to ourselves, to 4 metres x 3 metres. Surprising what a huge difference one extra metre made! We had a continuous 5 minute DVD running on a laptop in the corner of the stand, (pointless to have the volume turned up because of the exhibition noise).

Brenda Willemse enthralled people, particularly the youngsters with her spinning and the bag of raw fibre was a jaw dropper when we invited visitors to the stand to “have a feel.”

Brenda, incidentally, having been spinning for just over two years has just taken the top award in the Cape Guild of Spinners and Weavers’ annual spinning competition for the second year running and proudly brought the trophy back home again. She won with some beautifully spun variegated alpaca yarn.

Anyway all good fun, and this week we show our products off again at the Cape Women’s Agricultural Association annual congress/exhibition.

Best wishes to everyone,

Alison
